October 9th, 2009 - ALDS Series 1, Game 2

New York started AJ Burnett wipewashed the Detroit Tigers, allowing only two hits and two walks while fanning 10. Although Tigers started Justin Verlander fanned 10 as well, home runs by Nick Swisher and yet another by Mark Texiera put the game out of reach for Detroit. The Tigers will need to sweep at home and hope to get the Series back to the Bronx.

A.J. Burnett was on top of his game, blanking Detroit on just 2 hits as the
New York (AL) Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers by a score of 4 to 0 at
Yankee Stadium.

Burnett(1-0) was on top of his game. He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 2 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Burnett whiffed an impressive total of
10 Detroit batters. New York (AL) rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.

Justin Verlander(0-1) suffered the loss. When asked about his strikeout total
for the game, Burnett offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to
see them tally up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately,
I kept them busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught
without the 'W'.'
