October 8th, 2009 - ALDS Series 2, Game 1




The Red Sox won a tight matchup in game one thanks to an eighth inning clutch double by "Big Papi" David Ortiz. Sox center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury utilized his speed to menace the basepaths with three stolen bases. The Sox slim lead was maintained with a strong 2 inning save from closer Jonathon Pabelbon.

One run was the difference at Angels Stadium as the Boston Red Sox defeated
the Los Angeles(AL) Angels 4 to 3.

Paul Byrd(1-0) did the job in relief, and he got credit for the win. He went
1 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 hits and no walks. Los Angeles(AL) could do no
damage in the bottom of the 9th.

Byrd got relief help from Jonathan Papelbon who gained credit for his 1st
save. Darren Oliver(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. He gave up 1
run and 2 hits in 2 innings.
