The LA Angles completed their four game sweep of the Colorado Rockies to win the 2009 World Series tonight. Unlike their previous wins, this was based on a strong pitching performance from Jered Weaver, who won his 5th post-season game. Mike Napoli's 3 hits helped LA get the 3 runs it needed in their 3-1 victory.

Hunter Breaks Scoreless Tie with Three Run Blast!
October 31st, 2009 WS Game 3
Torii Hunter broke a scoreless pitchers' duel in the bottom of the 7th and then a Sean Rodriguez grand slam put the game out of reach for Colorado as LA moves to one game from a World Series sweep. John Lackey dominated the Rockies as he threw a complete game shutout. The mood in Colorado's dugout was somber as a team that ran threw the NL playoffs finds itself being absolutely dominated by AL champion LA.

John Lackey whitewashed Colorado on 3 hits as the Los Angeles(AL) Angels beat
the Colorado Rockies by a score of 9 to 0.
Lackey(2-1) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Colorado offense. He
allowed only 3 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Lackey struckout 11 Colorado
batters improving his ERA from 5.73 to 4.06. Los Angeles(AL) rapped out 11
hits for the night.
Jason Hammel(0-1) was hit with the loss. 'Lackey was the man tonight,' Mike
Scioscia said. 'He had just about every pitch working.'

Angels' Bats Roll Along!
Rivera Goes Deep Twice, Hunter Homers Again
Saunders Gives the Pen a Rest as
Angles Head Home Seeking Sweep
October 2nd, 2009 WS Game 2
It was Juan Rivera's turn to power that great engine known as the LA Angels' offense. His two home runs and a single accounted for 5 RBIs and 3 runs in their 8-2 win over the Colorado Rockies, giving them a 2-0 series lead. Starting pitcher Joe Saunders notched his 3rd victory of the post season, with a 2 run complete game that allowed LA's bullpen to get an extra two days of rest before the two teams will meet again in LA, where the Angles will look to put the World Series championship to bed before their home town fans. The news was not all sunny for the Angels, however. Right fielder Bobby Abreu left the game early and is expected to miss the next several games. He becomes the 2nd LA starter in addition to Pedro Guerrero to miss World Series playing time. Unlike Guerrero, though, Abreu may be able to play if the Series returns to Colorado.

Juan Rivera ripped 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Joe Saunders was able to
finish what he started and was credited with a complete game at Coors Field
as the Los Angeles(AL) Angels beat the Colorado Rockies 8 to 2.
Rivera was unconscious all evening. The Colorado fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He cracked
a two-run shot in the 3rd inning, rifled a three-run blast in the 5th inning
and smacked a single in the 7th inning. Los Angeles(AL) rapped out 10 hits
for the night.
The winning pitcher was Saunders(3-0) who allowed 2 runs for the game. Jason
Marquis(1-1) absorbed the loss. He allowed Los Angeles(AL) 7 runs in 5
innings of work.
'It's just about getting in a good hitting position and just going out there
and being prepared,' Rivera said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and
not do too much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by
game, and pitch by pitch.'

Angels Open with Win on Road for Series Lead
Fuentes fans three agsinst old team
in the 9th to close out LA win
October 28th, 2009 WS Game 1
The LA Angels opened strong against Colorado's Ubaldo Jimenez, and managed to hold on against a Rockies comeback in their 7-4 Series opening victory. Jeff Weaver managed to get his 4th win of the post season but could not dominate the Rockies, and needed help from the bullpen, which provided 4 innings of shutout ball to back him up. The Series promises to be an exciting one with two teams capable of putting up big innings at any time.

Torii Hunter: the Greatest Post Season Ever?
"We did it for Nick. He's always with us," says manager Sciosia
October 22, 2009 - ALCS Game 5
The Los Angeles Angels came out swinging and never let up, scoring 5 runs in each the first and third innings en route to a 14-0 humiliation of the New York Yankees and the American League pennant. Once again, Torii Hunter brought the biggest bat, homering twice and doubling. His 8 home runs in 8 playoff games is among the historically great post-seasons. Starter Joe Saunders dominated Yankee bats for his second win in the playoffs, yielding only 5 hits and one walk in his complete game victory. Angels players to a man talked about his the memory of their deceased teammate, Nick Adenhart, a young pitcher killed in a car crash, has contributed to their inspired run through the AL playoffs.

with his performance. He noted, 'I had good zip on my pitches. Just as
important, my location was right on. The fans really got into the game too -
that always helps me. Now, if I can only do that again in my next outing.'

Houston fans certainly got their money's worth at Minute Maid Park. Aaron
Cook(5-4) pitched a rare no-hitter as the Colorado Rockies toppled the
Houston Astros 8 to 0.
Cook had an evening to remember. He walked 2 Houston batters. The tension
was mounting with every inning after the 6th. Cook appeared oblivious
himself to the mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then,
did he allow himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound.
Colorado banged out 12 hits on the night.
Roy Oswalt(2-8) was given the loss. 'Not in my wildest dreams did I think
this would happen!' Cook said as he stood at home plate to salute the fans.
'Once I got into the later innings, I decided to challenge every hitter, and
that turned out to be the right decision!'

October 20th, 2009 ALCS Game 4
The New York Yankees picked an awful time to play their worst game of the season. Two errors, two wild pitches and two passed ball, coupled with only three hits from their offense resulted in a 9-0 loss and virtual elimination from the playoffs. "We were just brutal," said third baseman Alex Rodriguez, whose two base error resulted in the first run of the game. New York owner George Steinbrenner issued a one word press release: "Unacceptable." The Angels dominated on the mound as well as at the bat. Starter Jared Weaver's complete game victory gave him a 3-0 post season record with a 0.39 ERA. Torii Hunter's home run made him a shoe in for MVP should LA win the World Series.

October 19th, 2009 ALCS Game 3
The New York Yankees rallied to come back and avoid a 3-0 deficit with a three run homer by shortstop Derek Jeter. NY also enjoyed something it's seen little of this post-season: effective pitching from starter CC Sabathia and middle relievers. Johnny Damon had to leave the game early. In another report, Vladimir Guerrero's game 2 injury is much worse than expected and he will miss the remainder of the 2009 post season.
